Hansen Medical just received FDA approval to market its “Sensei(TM) Robotic Catheter System and Artisan(TM) Control Catheter to facilitate manipulation, positioning and control of mapping catheters during electrophysiology (EP) procedures.”
This technology while initially aimed at EP procedures promises to improve all interventional cardiology procedures by allowing very fine control of catheter navigation & tip positioning.
If it delivers on its promise it will “raise all boats” including the precision with which intracardiac ultrasound catheters can visualize and guide complex procedures.
With time & training it is reasonable to expect that Hansen’s technology may reduce the time required for each procedure and potentially the fluro time, i.e. radiation exposure to both patient & cath lab personal. Always a good thing.
